Brisbane City Council’s initiative, Green Heart CitySmart, is all about inspiring, educating and enabling residents, schools, community and business to show their love for Brisbane through real action making a real difference to our environment.

Green Heart City Smart has multiple programs working toward Council’s vision as the most sustainable capital city in Australia.  2 Million Trees – Our Urban Forest is working towards planting 2 million trees over the next four years throughout Brisbane.  Council is committed to purchasing 500 hectares of at risk bushland.Council is committed to increasing Brisbane’s natural habitat cover to 40% city wide.Council is offering Brisbane residents a $400 rebate on installation of a solar hot water system.

Council is developing a clean air strategy which will be released in draft format for community consultation later this year.Council is offering access to a Queensland Government home energy audit through a $50 rebate for Brisbane residents. As an organisation, Council is already well on track to being carbon neutral by 2026. Council follows a simple three-step process toward sustainability

  1. be wise (using resources wisely and switching off appliances and lights when they’re not needed)
  2. minimise (choose green power and reduce energy consumption where possible) and
  3. neutralise (offset your energy use through carbon credits).

Play your part. Visit GreenHeartCitySmart.com for more information on the latest Green Heart CitySmart events and activities, and show how much you love Brisbane.
