Ruby Blue
Ruby Blue has been spreading their dub infected earth bound grooves throughout the Brisbane and East Coast area since 2004. The lyrical dub-jazz-reggae five piece, featuring trumpet and trombone, plays mostly instrumental songs including expressive horn interplay and improvised solos. The rhythm section of Ruby Blue are a trio of mates who in the 10 plus years of playing together have formed a consistently strong and infectious groove that has become the trademark and the drawing card of Ruby Blue’s sound. Anthony Forrest (drums), Shannon Green (bass) and Drew Stephens (guitar and effects), provide the danceable, deep rhythms to which Peter Hunt (trumpet) and Ange Gadd (trombone) compliment with their lyrical and intuitive horn playing.
Ruby Blue began as a jam band which held a solid residency in the China Town mall for over 12 months in 2005/06. 2007 saw a nine month stint with the Elephant and Wheelbarrow, followed by Sunday residency at Lock n Load, West End, where they were one of the first live bands to play at the bar. Also playing a variety of festivals including Island Time, Kuranda Roots Festivals and a number of private functions, Ruby Blue have secured themselves a reputation as one of Brisbane’s most unique and enjoyable sounds in the dub-reggae and jazz circuits.
