Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland was established in 1971 as an independent, not-for-profit organisation. We are Queensland's longest standing community-based, environmental organisation.

Keep Australia Beautiful's programs motivate people to enhance the quality of their local environment through personal initiative and community action.

The environmental outcomes of our programs include:

  • increased environmental awareness and action
  • reduced litter
  • improved resource management
  • a more sustainable Queensland

Outcomes for our communities include good citizenship, pride and empowerment.

Through interaction with local governments, businesses, schools, community groups and committed individuals, Keep Australia Beautiful encourages a statewide network of grassroots volunteers who work to deliver a cleaner, greener environment.

Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland's flagship programs - Ergon Energy Tidy Towns, Green & Healthy Schools and the Clean Beach Challenge - are based on competitions and awards that motivate and recognise community commitment and resourcefulness in making a positive difference to the environment.

Keep Australia Beautiful also plays a key role in education. The Clean Site program promotes best practice environmental management during building and construction and KAB EnviroEd Tours for students is one of the state's best environmental interpretive programs.

Our Adopt-a-Road program encourages volunteers to undertake coordinated litter clean-ups along the streets and roads in their communities.

We also run regular litter campaigns, such as The Butt Stops Here and Please butt it, then bin it, to target cigarette butt litter by encouraging smokers to do the right thing and discard cigarette butts appropriately.
