The Department of Mines and Energy seeks to deliver a world-class mining industry and a sustainable energy market to support economic growth and improved welfare for all Queenslanders.
The department draws together and seeks to maximise the synergies that exist in Queensland's valuable mining and energy sectors.
The department is responsible for policies and processes to facilitate exploration and development and delivers services to protect the health and safety of people involved in Queensland's mining, quarrying, petroleum, gas and explosives industries, a sector that contributes over $16 billion to Queensland's Gross State Product.
It provides stewardship and delivers services in the:

Mining, quarrying, explosives, petroleum and gas industries

Mining, explosives, fireworks, petroleum and gas safety sector

Geoscience and resource information fields.
The department also develops policies and regulation that encourage and facilitate new investment in Queensland's energy sector and ensure the continued delivery of reliable, competitively priced and sustainable energy to all Queenslanders.
It seeks to achieve this through:

Stimulating the gas sector and renewable energy technologies
