Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee

Bulimba Creek Catchment Coordinating Committee (B4C) is a voluntary not-for-profit community-based environmental organisation that is committed to the protection and enhancement of the natural environment. Bulimba Creek Catchment is one of Brisbane's largest creek catchments, consisting of eight main tributaries and five wetland systems, and covering 122km2.

B4C's philosophy holds that communitites, government, educational institutions, industry and corporations must work together to make real and positive environmental change. To achieve their mission of a web of green across the catchment, B4C is working to engage people and build community capacity to become actively involved in restoring natural landscapes, habitat and nature conservation values through on ground opportunities, education and advocacy.

IRF is a Brisbane-based not-for-profit environmental organisation whose mission is to drive the restoration, protection and sustainable management of rivers in Australia and around the world. To achieve this broad mission, IRF works to:

  • advocate the protection and restoration of river systems around the world,
  • engage individuals and organisations on the importance of sustainable river management
  • reward and champion those who are making significant achievements in the protection, restoration and management of river systems,
  • ensure knowledge regarding effective river systems management is readily available,
  • act as a catalyst for the replication of effective river system management practices and
  • promote long-term relationships between countries and organisations concerning sustainable management of river systems.

Greenfest 2009

Greenfest focus this year on empowering people and their communities to take action for change is directly aligned with the vision and work of B4C and IRF.

Together B4C and IRF will be providing information to visitors about the work being undertaken to restore and sustainably manage the Bulimba Creek Catchment. There will be information on how households can help to keep our rivers clean, and broader information on what is happening in Brisbane, Queensland, and around the world to protect, restore and manage rivers sustainably.

Join us at the festival to purchase a native seedling to improve your backyard and local catchment, or bring the kids to help us paint our "Dream River". Together, we can work towards a healthier Bulimba Creek, more sustainably managed rivers, and a cooler planet!
