The Smart and Sustainable Homes program is managed by the Department of Public Works and is a unique collaboration of state government, local government and industry that have come together with the same ambition of educating customers and industry about more sustainable building practices.

Homes built under the Smart and Sustainable Homes Program use the Department of Public Works' 'Smart and Sustainable Homes Design Objectives' as the minimum criteria - the "triple-bottom-line" approach which balances the environmental, social and economic sustainability issues. Importantly, each of the homes is designed specifically to suit the climatic zone in which it is built, of which there are four in Queensland, and therefore each requires a different design approach.

The Smart and Sustainable Homes program has 14 completed projects state-wide at with 12 of these projects now closed, two currently open for display in Toowoomba and Noosa.

Two renovation projects in the program will be open for display in 2009.

The Smart and Sustainable Homes Program provides information and educational resources to industry, the community and schools to support the curriculum modules based on the built environment.

Visit our stand at Greenfest to obtain your free sample bag containing information and DVD on how to build a sustainable home.
