While the mention of their name often invokes raised eyebrows and amused smiles among the uninitiated, Brisbane four-piece Hungry Kids of Hungary produce music that inspires equal measures of curiosity and joy.

Forming in March 2007, the band have wasted no time in carving out a name for themselves in the Brisbane music scene, helped along by steady rotation Triple J. Dressing their immaculate indie tunes with a healthy dose of 60’s pop sensibility and lashings of soul, the Hungry Kids have clearly done their rock history homework, but manage to apply their learning without ever sounding formulaic.

Recorded in May last year at Brisbane’s Airlock Studios, their self-titled debut EP highlights their musical dexterity, skipping lithely between jangly pop gems, hushed ballads and slinky soul numbers.

After launching the EP in July this year, they have since made it their mission to play as many shows as possible while also planning their follow-up release for 2009. Most recently, they have just finished making their debut video for ‘Set It Right’, and have just been selected by Triple J’s Unearthed to join the Big Day Out line-up.

‘Another cruisey Sunday arvo type pop song from these guys…. Give it a few listens and it will be hard to shake.’ - Richard Kingsmill, Triple J Unearthed review of ‘Set It Right’

‘Seamless, intelligent shimmering pop with instant appeal and that classic songwriting stamp on songs made to last like Set It Right, One By One and Arrest This Heart.’ – Pat Whyte, Courier Mail
