Rainforest Foods

Rainforest Foods has been creating quality gourmet products from the plants of the Australian rainforest since 1998. While traveling in Central America in the early nineties, owner, Anthony Hotson, spent time with Costa Rican botanists investigating the useful properties of local rainforest plants. 'Playing on my mind was finding a key to make our generally consumer-based culture value our natural resources enough to stop us from mindlessly destroying them', says Anthony.
Back in Australia, this led him to investigate local plants and the evolving Native Food industry. First plantings in the sub-tropical hinterland around Byron Bay were established in 1995 and Rainforest Foods has continues to expand, working with local farmers to create small, sustainable orchards of native rainforest trees and shrubs. Rainforest Foods then turns the produce into world-class condiments and macadamia nut products.
Rainforest Foods will showcase their expanding range of native food products at Greenfest 2009, bringing the unique flavours of the Byron Bay rainforest to Brisbane. Visit them to taste their selection of delicious hand made jam and jellies, including Davidson's Plum, Rainforest Raspberry, Finger Lime, Lemon Aspen, Riberry, Illawarra Plum and Small Leaf Tamarind. Their Davidson's Plum and Sweet Chilli Sauce is a very popular dipping sauce and marinade and a great accompaniment to meat and seafood dishes.
Other condiments include the famous Lemon Myrtle Honey and the very popular fresh and nutritious Macadamia Spread. Expanding their macadamia range, Rainforest Foods now offers a tantalising selection of nuts including Natural, Dry Roasted and Salted, Honey Roasted and their delectable Dark Chocolate covered nuts, the perfect treat for all occasions! Their Natural and Lemon Myrtle Infused Macadamia Oils are an essential and healthy addition to every kitchen.
As a pioneer in the native food industry, Rainforest Foods is committed to sharing the culinary potential of our rainforest plants and supporting the protection and regeneration of our beautiful Australian rainforests. Through their participation in Greenfest 2009 they aim to raise awareness of the incalculable value of our precious native ecosystems in a very delicious way!
