Released 1 October 2008

Low emission cars line up at Greenfest

If you are looking for a new car and want the best choice for the planet and your wallet the Green Motor Show presented by NRMA Insurance at Greenfest from 10 – 12 October at South Bank Parklands is the place to be.

Vehicles on show will be ranked on a starter’s grid in terms of their green credentials and will represent the best choice in the race against climate change.

According to Greenfest Director, Colman Ridge the low emission cars on show are the best available for reducing carbon emissions and their fuel efficiency can make a huge difference to your running costs.

“If the community were only driving the cars on show at Greenfest we would effectively half the emissions compared to the current average. The Green Motor Show is a practical exercise in showing the attractive ways to change behaviour now without waiting for more technology or policy” said Colman.

NRMA Insurance Chief Executive, Brett Robinson said his company is delighted to commit their support behind the Green Motor Show as they recognise the impact of climate change and are aiming to better manage the company’s output and give customers green options.

“Although now complete, the year-long NRMA Insurance Carbonators campaign helped offset more than 40,000 tonnes of carbon emissions – the equivalent of removing about 9,300 cars from our roads for a year. Customers who own a car with a recognised fuel economy of 5.5 litres per 100km or better receive a saving of up to 10 per cent on their comprehensive car insurance” said Mr Robinson.

The best green transport options will not be limited to cars at Greenfest. Public transport, scooters, cycling and other creative concepts for getting from a to b in the effective way for the planet will be on show.
