Brisbane Unites at 12 Midday on World Environment Day

A willingness to change behaviour to combat climate change has prompted an unprecedented response from community leaders, performers, schools, senior citizens, business and grassroots innovators to come together in Brisbane’s this World Environment Day.

Greenfest, presented by Brisbane City Council, brings together innovation and creativity from around our community and many other parts of the world to celebrate the idea that “fresh energy” can cool the planet.

The Director of the UNEP, Achim Steiner, said in a letter “When the people of Brisbane come together at Greenfest to share their hopes and commitments for the future, they will be joining millions of others around the globe on World Environment Day.  Brisbane’s support and promotion of the World Environment Day, through a public environmental festival is a timely and important initiative for the planet.”

The opening event will commence at 12 midday with an opening welcome to country by Nunukul Yuggera, Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, Jack Thompson, Summer Rayne Oakes and Debby Cox.
