Brisbane’s grassroots unite to beat climate change
The Greenfest 2009 program launch this Sunday 5th April will witness a range of grassroots innovators and entrepreneurs uniting to combat climate change.
This authentic root of change in Brisbane has just been recognized by the Director General of the United Nations Environment Program, Achim Steiner. Mr Steiner said “ When the people of Brisbane come together at Greenfest to share their hopes and commitments for the future, they will be joining millions of others around the globe on World Environment Day. The theme for 2009 World Environment Day is “Your planet needs you – unite to combat climate change.” It reflects the urgency of nations and communities to reflect on a new deal at the crucial UN climate convention meeting in Copenhagen.” (Full letter received from Mr Steiner by Greenfest is attached)
At Greenfest in June there will be over 200 exhibitors and a grassroots innovation that are uniting to combat climate change. This weekend to support the program launch there are 12 innovators supported by presentations and music, including:
-
An altered 6.5hp generator that is claimed to run a minimum of 20% more efficient via a retrofit “GEET” system developed by local engineers Ashtweth Palaise and Andrew Gardiner of East Brisbane. ( Picture attached ) Ash and Andrew are a part of an open source engineering group attempting to execute and replicate known technology improvements for commercial application.
-
The world’s first purpose built air to water machine called the Watermill presented by Ajanta Willert from West End ( Picture attached). The Watermill produces 12 litres of water per day from one standard solar panel powering it’s condensation systems.
-
A modular bicycle hub which can drop into carparks hosting 10-20 bikes, shower, locker rooms and toilet and fits perfectly into one standard carpark, presented by Tim Ceolin of Penny Farthing Pushbike Parking
